Paul Bryant famously said that “Offense sells tickets. Defense wins championships”. Let’s take a look at the 10 best defenses in Madden 24.

10. New England Patriots (82)

Since arriving at the Patriots in 2021 outside linebacker Matthew Judon has been one of the best players for New England. Judon is the Patriot’s best defensive player in Madden 24 (89) and is supported by middle linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley (84) who’s great against the run.

The Patriots defense is further boosted by a strong secondary which includes safeties Kyle Dugger (86) and Jabrill Peppers (83), as well as reliable cornerback Jonathan Jones (83) who the Patriots re-signed in free agency.

9. New York Jets (82)

The Jets have had a very busy offseason with the biggest news coming on offense. They also have one of the best defenses in Madden 24 and are projected to be the best defense team in 2023. Quinnen Williams (93) is one of the best defensive tackles in the game and earned his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2022.

Sauce Gardner (93) and D.J. Reed Jr (83) provides a strong secondary, John Franklin-Myers (83) is solid on the left edge, and C.J. Mosley (85) tops it off as leader of the defensive unit.

8. Cleveland Browns (83)

The Browns have arguably the best edge rusher in the league with Myles Garrett (98). On the opposite edge is Za’Darius Smith (85) which causes major headaches for opposing teams. 

Cleveland’s secondary features two strong cornerbacks in Denzel Ward (88) and Greg Newsome II (83) providing a well balanced defensive unit in Madden 24.

7. Philadelphia Eagles (83)

Philadelphia’s offense might be their strength, but their defensive unit is also elite. They have one of the strongest Madden cornerback duos which features Darius Slay Jr (92) and James Bradberry IV (85). 

Linebacker Haason Reddick (90) – who is fast becoming a top pass rusher – as well as edge rusher Josh Sweat (84) had career years in 2022 and should only get even better.

6. LA Chargers (84)

The LA Chargers have the sixth best defense in Madden 24 at launch. Derwin James Jr. (95) is the best strong safety in the game, and Asante Samuel Jr (82), JC Jackson (82) and Michael Davis (80) provide solid cornerback depth. 

Joey Bosa (91), Eric Kendricks (85) and Khalil Mack (85) combine to form a fearsome linebacker trio creating one of the best pass rushing teams to use in Madden 24. 

5. Pittsburgh Steelers (85)

The Steelers have one of the best speed rushers in the league in T.J Watt (94), and are well balanced against the run with Cameron Heyward (93), who is also an elite pass rusher with impeccable technique and strength.

Pittsburgh also has one of the best safeties in Minkah Fitzpatrick (93) and a strong cornerback in Patrick Peterson (85), giving Pittsburgh sensational balance across the entire defensive field.

4. Miami Dolphins (86)

The Miami Dolphins have the best cornerback in Madden 24 in Jalen Ramsey (97). Edge rusher Christian Wilkins (86) was one of the Dolphins’ best last season and is well supported by outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips (83).

Helping Ramsey in the backfield on the opposite side is cornerback Xavien Howard (84) who is looking to rebound this season. The pair has the potential to be the best cornerback duos in the league.

3. Dallas Cowboys (87)

In a league with phenomenal right edge rushers Micah Parsons (97) is one of the best, with a freakish ability to destroy the pocket and pressure quarterbacks. On the other edge is DeMarcus Lawrence (90) with the pair creating one of the best defensive end combinations in Madden 24.

The Cowboys defense is the third best in Madden 24 and will be a nightmare for opponents to contend with. Cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore (91), Trevon Diggs (87) help against aerial raids, plus the depth of middle linebacker Leighton Vander Esch (82) and safety Malik Hooker (82) makes them a force to be reckoned with. 

2. Buffalo Bills (88)

Von Miller (94) may not be healthy to begin the 2024 NFL season but he’s available from the get go in Madden 24. The Buffalo Bills have the second best defense in Madden 24 thanks to their secondary which features safeties Jordan Power (90), Micah Hyde (89), and cornerback Tre’Davious White (90).

The Bills are absolutely stacked on defense with Taron Johnson (83) providing depth in the backfield. Outside lineback Matt Milano (88) is elite against the run, and Greg Rousseau (84) provides a top level pass rushing option. 

1. San Francisco 49ers (88)

The San Francisco 49ers have the best defense in Madden 24 and they’re going to be like a cheat code to use. Let’s start with the edge rushing ability of Nick Bosa (98). Field general Fred Warner (96) is the best cover linebacker in Madden 24, supported on the outside by pass coverage specialist Dre Greenlaw (86).

In the backfield, cornerback Charvarious Ward (87) and safety Talanoa Hufanga (86) will help lockdown the secondary. Run-stuffer Arik Armstead (82) helps beef up the interior, which gives us the best defensive team in Madden 24 with a launch defensive rating of 88.
