Most Goals in a Premier League Season

The Premier League has always had a collection of the best strikers in the world battling it out for the Golden Boot award. Let’s take a look at these record breaking seasons.

13. Harry Kane (2022-23) – 30 goals

Tottenham came off the back of a respectable fourth place finish in 2021-22 with an eight place finish in 2022-23, the lowlight a 6-1 defeat to Newcastle. Kane did everything he could with 30 goals from 38 games during the season backing up his 2017-18 effort.

12. Harry Kane (2017-18) – 30 goals

Tottenham had an exceptional 2017-18 campaign finishing third. Harry Kane played a huge role in that, finding the back of the net with his lethal finishing and his aerial ability. He went on to score 30 goals in the league, and 41 games in all competitions.

11. Robin van Persie (2011-12) – 30 goals

Robin van Persie matched Thierry Henry’s 2003-04 goal tally of 30 goals in the 2011-12 season. His goal scoring exploits helped Arsenal achieve a third-place finish in the league.

Following van Persie’s best individual season, he made a controversial move to rivals Manchester United in a deal worth £24 million.

10. Thierry Henry (2003-04) – 30 goals

Thierry Henry is the best Arsenal player of all time and quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s greatest strikers after joining from Juventus in 1999.

Arsenal went undefeated on their way to winning the Premier League title in the 2003-04 season. Henry’s 30 goals from 37 games that season was a key part of the “The Invincibles” success.

9. Kevin Phillips (1999-00) – 30 goals

The 1999-00 season cemented Kevin Phillips’ status as one of Sunderland’s greatest ever players as the club earned a seventh place finish.

A 30-goal haul from 36 games earned him the Premier League Golden Boot award as well as the European Golden Shoe.

8. Alan Shearer (1993-94) – 31 goals

The year before Blackburn’s historic Premier League title Alan Shearer gave an indication of what was to come with a 31-goal haul during the 1993-94 season. It may not have been as impressive as his other campaigns, as he scored it in 40 games, the league reverting from a 42-game season to 38 games from the 1995-96 season onward.

7. Alan Shearer (1995-96) – 31 goals

Alan Shearer appears on the list of most goals in a Premier League season multiple times, which is why he’s one of the best strikers in league history. Following their historic Premier League title the year prior, Shearer dominated with his physical game and exceptional finishing.

Shearer scored 31 goals for Blackburn in 1995-96, which was the first 38-game Premier League season. Of his 31-goal tally, he recorded five hat-tricks as the club finished seventh.

6. Cristiano Ronaldo (2007-08) – 31 goals

Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably the best player of all time and one of the main arguments as to why is because of the impact he had in the Premier League.

Ronaldo’s 31 goals from 34 games in the 2007-08 season earned him a spot on the list of most goals in a Premier League season. Manchester United won the title, one of three that Ronaldo won with the club, and he finished with 102 goals in the league in total.

5. Luis Suarez (2013-14) – 31 goals

Luis Suarez’s time in the Premier League was controversial at times, but the Uruguayan undoubtedly left his mark on the league with his relentless drive, technical ability and finishing.

Suarez scored 31 goals in 33 games in 2013-14. Had he not bitten Branislav Ivanovic in the season prior, he very likely would be even higher up the list of most goals in a Premier League season, missing games earlier on in the season to serve out a 10-game suspension.

4. Mohamed Salah (2017-2018) – 32 goals

Liverpool had a remarkable attack in 2017-18 which featured Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamad Salah. Following a return to the Premier League from Roma, Salah scored an impressive 32 goals from 36 games.

Had it not been for a few minor groin injuries, forcing Salah to miss a couple of games, he may have added to his 32-goal haul and climbed up higher on the list of most goals in a Premier League season.

3. Alan Shearer (1994-95) – 34 goals

Alan Shearer will be remembered more for his time at Newcastle than at Blackburn. His achievements at Blackburn however were far greater with his 34-goal haul in the 1994-95 season earning the club a historic Premier League title.

Shearer scored three hat-tricks during the season, and during his four seasons at Blackburn scored an incredible 112 league goals.

2. Andy Cole (1993-94) – 34 goals

Andy Cole had the pace, instinct, quick feet and excellent technique to be able to dominate the opposition and he had an exceptional 1993-94 season while at Newcastle United. Not only did he score 34 goals, he also had 13 assists in 40 Premier League games during the season.

In 1995 Manchester United swooped in and bought Cole in a deal worth £7 million, a British transfer record at the time.

1. Erling Haaland (2022-23) – 36 Goals

Erling Haaland more than repaid the £51m fee Manchester City paid for him, scoring the most goals in a Premier League season with 36 goals. The club went on to secure a historic treble, including a maiden Champions League title, with Haaland scoring 52 goals in all competitions.
